Eat what you want as much as you want

by Emily on January 26, 2010

Yes, it’s true. Not only you can eat as much as you want, but you also get to eat fats, carbs, and even desert. There’s only one rule: eat it before 9:00 am.

According to Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz’s BIG Breakfast study, women that had a protein rich breakfast (and some amounts of sweets and starches) lost more weight than women that were on a low far or low carbs diet. The study also shows that these women not only shed more pounds, but they also kept their weight in check long term.

There’s 3 main reasons you should eat a big breakfast:

  • Your body burns calories faster in the morning due to the fact that your body is hungry
  • You are giving your body food when it needs it the most
  • You will be less hungry during the day

I am a big fan of big breakfasts. Here’s how one of my morning meals looks like: eggs, veggies, some type of lean meat, a slice of bread and a small fruit. I know it’s a lot, but I get everything my body needs to properly function during the day: protein, carbs, fiber and vitamins. Yeah, I mentioned dessert at the beginning, but I don’t eat it because..you guessed it…I am too full

I really believe that having a large meal in the morning can only benefit your body, but I also realize many of you won’t be able to eat that much, especially in the morning. But here’s how to did it: start small. Add one egg to you breakfast. After a few days (maybe even 1-2 weeks), ad a small piece of protein-rich meal (turkey is good). Wait until you are conformable and your body adjust to your new “diet” and add a piece of fruit, etc…It make take you a few weeks, even months, but in the end it’s well worth it. You will have more energy in the morning, you will feel less hungry during the day, and your cravings will slowly disappear.

Coffee reduces risk of brain cancer

by Emily on January 25, 2010

According to a study published in aacrjournals.org drinking coffee can reduce the risk of developing brain cancer. 335 patients participated in this experiment (men, 133; women, 202) and the result was clear: those who drank over 5 caffeinated beverages a day reduced the risk of developing glioma (brain cancer) by 40%.

The physicians assume that caffeine prevents blood from flowing to the brain, which stops the cancer cells from developing.
